Momento Mori, Fistful of Flowers 2023

Momento Mori is the creation of Dane Johns, a natural winemaker based in Gippsland, Victoria, who works with organically farmed fruit from trusted growers across the region. His philosophy centres on minimal intervention, wild fermentation, and zero additions, crafting wines that express purity and place. Each cuvée is small-batch and distinctive, often field blends of Italian varieties. Made from Moscato and Vermentino sourced in Victoria’s Heathcote region, this skin-contact wine opens with an intoxicating perfume of honeysuckle, orange blossom and white peach. The palate is fresh and pure, the grape skins adding gentle texture and complexity, while vibrant acidity and a saline, steely finish bring energy and focus. Minimal intervention, wild yeasts, no new oak and no fining puts purity front and centre. A highly expressive, natural wine of vivid personality.
